Takayama (高山) is a city in the mountainous Hida region of Gifu Prefecture. To differentiate it from other places named Takayama, the city is also commonly referred to as Hida-Takayama. Takayama retains a traditional touch like few other Japanese cities, especially in its beautifully preserved old town. It now ranks as one of the prime candidates among travelers wishing to add a rural element into their itineraries.

ELIGIBILITY

  • Only travelers visiting Japan under the entry status of “Temporary visitor” and has a passport bearing this stamp can use this pass. Please note that according to strict interpretation of the Japanese Immigration Law, “Temporary visitor” status differs even from other types of stays that are also for only short time periods.
  • Japanese passport holders can NOT use this pass. However in a rare case when travellers have dual passports (Japanese & Other), unless your valid non Japanese passport is stamped with “Temporary Visitor”, issuance of JR pass will be refused.

EXCHANGE

  • Exchange period must be between 16 April 2016 and 9 November 2016
  • You must exchange for a pass at designated Exchange Office (in Japan) within three months from the date of issuance and within the pass’s period of use in order to receive your The Alpine-Takayama-Matsumoto Area Tourist Pass.
  • To exchange the voucher for the Pass you will need your passport.
  • The start date of the Pass can no longer be changed once the pass has been exchanged.

VALIDITY

    • Period of use of The Alpine-Takayama-Matsumoto Area Tourist Pass: 16 April 2016 to 13 November 2016 . You must start to use the Pass by 9 November 2016.
    • The Alpine-Takayama-Matsumoto Area Tourist Pass is valid on following JR Limited Express, Express and local trains:

(1) Between Nagoya station – Toyama station (via Tokaido/Takayama lines)
(2) Between Shinano-Omachi station and Nagoya station (via Oito/Shinonoi/Chuo Main lines).
(3) Non-reserved seating on Toyama Chiho Railway limited express trains between Dentetsu-Toyama station and Tateyama station included.

    • Unlimited use of public transportation at the Tateyama Kurobe Alpine Route

(1) Toyama Chihou Tetsudou line between Dentetsu-Toyama and Tateyama(Excluding reserved seats on limited express trains)
(2) The following transportation between Tateyama – Kurobeko: Tateyama Cable Car / Tateyama Highland Bus / Tateyama Tunnel Trolleybus / Tateyama Ropeway / Kurobe Cable Car
(3) Kanden Tunnel Trolley bus between Kurobe Dam – Ogisawa
(4) Local bus between Ogisawa – Shinano – Omachi

  • **The Pass is not valid on homer lines and other lines, unless stated above.

BOOKING

  • Non-reserved Ordinary class cars can be accessed freely. Travelling on the Green car will require additional charges.
  • With the Pass, reserved seats on ordinary cars can be used up to 4 times on limited express and rapid train between Nagoya station and Toyama station (via Tokaido/Takayama lines) and between Shinano-Omachi station and Nagoya station (via Oito/Shinonoi/Chuo Main lines). Before boarding, you are required to receive a free reserved seating tickets at the ticket centers at the main stations of JR Central, JR West, JR East on the designated routes, or JR Tokai Tours’ offices.
  • Pass holders cannot reserve the Tateyama Cable Car tickets online.
  • For transportation services between Tateyama and Kurobeko, a “boarding numbered ticket” is required. Please show your Pass at Tateyama station or Kurobeko station’s ticket gate window to collect it.
  • To access the platforms, show your Pass to the station staff located at the gate to the platform.
  • The reserved seating cannot be guaranteed and is subject to availability.
  • It is a personal Pass. Please always carry your passport when using the Pass as station and train staff may check it.

CANCELLATION

  • The starting date written on the The Alpine-Takayama-Matsumoto Area Tourist Pass cannot be changed.
  • The voucher can be refunded if it has never been exchanged in Japan.
  • 15% of the price will be charged as a refund handling fee.
  • Refund is allowed only before the Exchange Order is exchanged into Rail Pass and it must submit for refund within 12 months from the issuance date.
  • The refund process required approximately 2 months to complete.
  • We’ll refund by cheque for cash and Nets payments and credit card for credit card payments.
  • Neither an Exchange Order nor a Alpine-Takayama-Matsumoto Area Tourist Pass can be reissued if lost or stolen.

Ise - Kumano - Wakayama Area Tourist Pass

The Ise – Kumano – Wakayama Area Tourist Pass is a special discounted pass available only to foreign travellers visiting Japan under the entry status of “Temporary visitor”. Visitors can use this pass to travel from Nagoya to as far as Kushimoto. It is valid on five consecutive calendar days of your choice. This pass can be used on the JR Limited Express trains to and from Nagoya, within Osaka city, Nara and on designated bus routes and railways convenient for visitng Ise/Toba area. On top of that, rental bicycles “Ekirin Kun” services can also be use at Wakayama station, Kiitanabe and Shirahama station.

(2) Designated sections of Kumano Kotsu’s route buses: Katsuura station – Nachisan, Katsuura station-Shingu station of the Wakayama Electric Railway’s Kishigawa Line.

    • Rental bicycles “Ekirin Kun” services can be used at Wakayama station, Kiitanabe station and Shirahama station.

* Limited to those aged 12 and above. Can be used everyday while the pass is valid. Number of bicycles is limited and may not be available.

Mt. Fuji – Shizuoka Area Tourist Pass Mini is a special discounted pass available only to foreign travellers visiting Japan under the entry status of “Temporary visitor”. Visitors can use this pass to travel from Atami to as far as Toyohashi. It is valid on three consecutive calendar days of your choice. This pass can be used on the JR conventional trains, bus and ferries to visit places around Mt. Fuji, including Gotemba Premium Outlets, Fujikyu Highland, etc.
