aJR East-South Hokkaido Pass


JR EAST-SOUTH HOKKAIDO RAIL PASS

FLEXIBLE 6 DAYS

The JR East-South Hokkaido Rail Pass is a special discounted pass available only to foreign travelers visiting Japan under the entry status of “Temporary visitor”. Visitors can use this pass to travel from Shimoda in Izu Peninsula to as far as Sapporo and Otaru. Thanks to the unlimited access to JR East lines, you can purchase the pass and it’s valid on six calendar days of your choice within a 14-day period starting from the date of purchase. You don’t have to determine your 6 travel dates at the time of purchase or exchange. For example, if you purchase your pass or get it by exchange on April 1, you can show the pass at a station on any six days between April 1 and April 14 and it will be stamped as valid for use on that day, and you don’t have to worry about language barriers.

Purchasing-procedure

ELIGIBILITY

  • Only travelers who are visiting Japan under the entry status of “Temporary visitor” and have a passport bearing this stamp can use this pass. Please note that according to strict interpretation of the Japanese Immigration Law, “Temporary visitor” status differs even from other types of stays that are also for only short time periods.
  • Japanese passport holders can NOT use this pass. However in a rare case when travelers have dual passports (Japanese & Other), unless your valid non-Japanese passport is stamped with “Temporary Visitor”, issuance of JR pass will be refused.

EXCHANGE

  • The JR East-South Hokkaido Rail Pass Exchange Order is valid for three months from the date of issue.  You must exchange it at a JR East-South Hokkaido Rail Pass Exchange Office (in Japan) within these three months in order to receive your JR East-South Hokkaido Rail Pass.  If you fail to make the exchange within these three months then you will not be able to receive your pass.
  • The JR East-South Hokkaido Rail Pass is only available to non-Japanese passport holders with a short-term visa to stay in Japan for no longer than 90 days. Japanese passport holders can NOT use this pass.
  • To exchange the voucher for the Pass you will need your passport.
  • The start date of the Pass can no longer be changed once the voucher has been exchanged.

VALIDITY

  • The lines include in the pass:
    • JR Hokkaido Lines
    • JR East Lines (including BRT*)
    • Izu Kyuko Line
    • Tokyo Monorail
    • Aoimori Railway
    • IGR Iwate Galaxy Railway
    • Sendai Airport Transit
    • The following local and rapid trains that directly run between on Tobu Railway lines between Tobu-Nikko/Kinugawa-onsen and Shimo-imaichi, including SPACIA Kinugawa, etc. Also, direct limited express trains between Shimo-imaichi and Kurihashi Stations on Tobu Railway Lines.
  • Notes:
    • * Bus rapid transit.
    • ** This pass might be used for Tobu Railway Lines whereas either the departure or arrival station is on a JR Line.
    • The JR EAST Rail PASS is not valid for the Tokaido Shinkansen (between Tokyo and Nagoya, Kyoto and Osaka) as they are operated by different rail companies.
    • GALA Yuzawa station is operated only in Winter and Spring.
    • The JR EAST Rail PASS is not valid for JR buses.
    • The JR EAST Rail PASS is not valid between Goryokaku and Kikonai Stations on the “South Hokkaido Railway” line.

BOOKING

  • With the Pass, no additional fee is required when reserving seats. 
  • Reservation for the seats can only be done locally at Travel Service Centers (View Plazas) and JR Ticket Offices (Midori-no-madoguchi) located in JR East stations, as well as at Travel Service Centers (Twinkle Plazas) and JR Ticket Offices (Midori-no-madoguchi) located in JR Hokkaido stations. Your pass is required when reserving a designated seat.
  • Non-reserved Ordinary Class cars can be accessed freely. 
  • To access the platforms, show your pass to the JR East staff located at the platform gates. 
  • To reserve a seat, ask the JR East staff at the the ticket office. 
  •  It is a personal pass. Please always carry your passport when using the Pass as station and train staff may check it.

CANCELLATION

  • The starting date written on the JR East-South Hokkaido Rail Pass cannot be changed.
  • An unused voucher is refundable for one year from the date of issue.
  • The voucher can be refunded if it has never been exchanged in Japan.
  • 15% of the price will be charged as a refund handling fee.
  • Refund is allowed only before the Exchange Order exchange to Rail Pass and it must submit for refund within 12 months from the issuance date.
  • The refund process required approximately 2 months to complete.
  • We’ll refund to cheque for cash and Nets payment and credit card for credit card payment.
  • Neither an Exchange Order nor a JR East-South Hokkaido Rail Pass can be reissued if lost or stolen.

JR EAST (TOHOKU AREA)

The JR East Pass (Tohoku Area) is a special discounted pass available only to foreign travelers visiting Japan under the entry status of “Temporary visitor”. Visitors can use this pass to travel from Ominato, Hokkaido to as far as Shimoda in Izu Peninsula. Thanks to the unlimited access to JR East lines, you can purchase the pass and it’s valid on five calendar days of your choice within a 14-day period. This pass can be used on the Limited Express trains, including “SPACIA Kinugawa” and “SPACIA Nikko” which operate between the JR East lines and Tobu Railway Lines. You don’t have to determine your 5 travel dates at the time of purchase or exchange. For example, if you purchase your pass or get it by exchange on April 1, you can show the pass at a station on any five days between April 1 and April 14 and it will be stamped as valid for use on that day, and you don’t have to worry about language barriers.

  • Upon completing the payment, our JTB staff will send a confirmation E-mail with the E-voucher to you within 2 working days.

This pass can be used on the Limited Express trains “Spacia Nikko” and “Spacia Kinugawa” which operates between the JR East lines and Tobu Railway Lines. You don’t have to determine your 5 travel dates at the time of purchase or exchange. For example, if you purchase your pass or get it by exchange on April 1, you can show the pass at a station on any five days between April 1 and April 14 and it will be stamped as valid for use on that day, and you don’t have to worry about language barriers.
