Sightseeing spots

Hirome Ichiba
A must for visitors to Kochi, this popular place houses about 60 stalls including Japanese, Western, Chinese Style restaurants, souvenir shops, fish shops & sundries shops with the aim of ‘spreading knowledge of the food & culture of Kochi as well as the likes & thinking of the people of Kochi.

Kuretaishomachi Ichiba
This market is a complex of an arcade & open air shop selling fresh seafood & vegetable locally produced at reasonable prices & acts like a kitchen of ordinary citizens. The fish sold here varies daily depends on the catch of the day. This market became the 1st port town designated as an Important Cultural Property in March 2011.

Kochi Castle
1 of just 12 Japanese castles to have survived the fires, wars & other catastrophes of the post feudal age. 1 st constructed in the 1600s, most of its main buildings date from 1748 when they were reconstructed after a fire. A unique feature of Kochi castle is that its main tower was not only used for military purposes but also as a residence. In most other castles the lords usually resided in separate palace buildings instead of the castle keep.

Ekingura
This museum houses collections of paintings & items related to Kinzo Hirose, a painter of the mid-19th century. He lived in Akaoka Town & has a studio in a Japanese Sake warehouse. Unlike many museums, everything in Ekinguracan be touched as they are replicas. The original paintings are protected behind glass panels.
